INHABIT is for the experienced and critically conscious dance artist that is curious in deconstructing and applying their practice beyond the traditional proscenium. Participants will confront and respond to the political, psychological, historical and social context, signification and orientation of performance in non-traditional spaces. They will discuss and distinguish site specific, installation and immersive modes of production, carefully examining creative and communal objectives, as well as responsibilities and greater potential. Three intensive sessions will culminate in the making of original choreographies (paired with a selected site) challenging and integrating the research recovered. A practice of sharing laboratory material will lend to exercises in critical, theoretical discussion and feedback, establishing a forum for addressing/articulating dance as both maker and witness.
